Aleppo is the second largest city of Syria, after Damascus, the Syrian capital. <em>Aleppo</em> changed its name to Beroia by Seleucus Niktator (312-64 BC) at the time of the Seleucid kingdom. The city was formerly known as Halab. In Ancient Babylonian texts (750 BC), the name Halab already mentioned, as well as the name of <em>Aleppo</em> in the inscription of Ancient Egypt (16th century BC). Due to a very strategic location of Aleppo as a trading center, the City of <em>Aleppo</em> Syria became part of the country since 1944.</p>
<p>The city of <em>Aleppo</em> was rocked by an earthquake in 1822 and 1827 that resulted in some damage to historic buildings in the city of <em>Aleppo</em>.</p>
<p><strong>Monastery of St. Simeon</strong></p>
<p>Monastery of St. Simeon (Qalat-Seeman) is located 40 km north of Aleppo, near the Roman road connecting Aleppo and Antioch. The initiative of building the monastery belongs to the successor of St. Simeon, St. Daniel Stylites, who appealed to the Emperor Leo I (457-474).</p>
<p><strong>Aleppo Museum</strong></p>
<p>Archaeological Museum of <em>Aleppo</em> has been famous exhibits from excavations of ancient Mesopotamian city of Mari, Ebla and Ugarit, as well as a large number of statues and carved reliefs that once adorned the royal palace in <em>Aleppo</em> portal.</p>
<p><strong>Citadel of Aleppo</strong></p>
<p>Citadel of <em>Aleppo</em> is located in the heart of the city. The founder of this castle is Sayf al-Dawla.
